Yes, your logic is fool proof. We will now send mechanics to prison for modifying cars to be faster than they were intended to be, obviously the point of this is to break the speed limit, and encourage illegal street racing right? The fact of the matter is, the vast majority of people I know who console, including my self (who installs mod chips) have mod chips, and the biggest reasons we have them is to be able to run copies of our own software if it is destroyed. We buy the right to use the software, not the actual disk, If the disk is destroyed, through fault, or not fault of our own, we have the LEGAL RIGHT to continue using the software. While gaming companies will charge upwards of 25$ for a replacement DVD, even though the DVDs them selves cost mere pennies. They are illegally ripping us off because they can. Beyond that, again, the vast majority of people I know who have modified consoles, do it to ruin their own OS, usually a linux of some sort. YOU are the one who does not have REASON. THANK FOR SPREADING IGNORANCE AND SUPPORT OF CORPORATE AMERICANS ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES.
