08 Nightster Vs. 900RR?
I have my own opinions but this guy on youtube was claiming his stock Nightster can and has beaten a CBR 900 RR in a drag race. Not that it's impossible because the guy on the 900 could be a newbie or poor rider. This guy claims no matter the skill level, it's a hands down race all the time. He posted all these dealer specs but I never heard of it. What you guys think?
Anything is possible.
The Nightster is a fourteen second 1/4 mile ride.
Any CBR will run in the elevens or quicker.
Easy enough to prove. Go to cycleworld.com or one of the many other motorcycle web-sites that feature road tests.
There you can compare performance of just about all makes
under controlled conditions with riders of similiar skill levels.
And, sure, the performance of any bike will depend on the skill of the rider. Maybe even three seconds quicker.
A reliable indicator of performance is the power to weight ratio.
A typical Sporty will weigh in at over 600 pounds, the horsepower will be about 60. That relates to 10 pounds of machine for every one horse power.
An old CBR will weigh in at around 400 pounds, with horsepower in the 120 range. Less than four pounds of machine for every one horse power.
Doesn't sound like much of a comparison.
Maybe your youtube rider has special skill and a "SPECIAL"
machine. I would encourage him to take it to a drag strip and let the performance do the talking.
Note: Some guys have a history of talking faster than their machines.
Take their bravado for what it is.
