How come cops always want to take away the fun from kids driving fast and drag-racing?
When cops were a little younger, back when they were in their teens or early 20s, I'm sure even they sped around and enjoyed having fun burning rubber in some Firebird or Camaro. I'm 28 years old and I still haven't had that V8 yet and I really want to speed and burn rubber at some point with one, but without the risk of getting a ticket.
Remember when those cops stop the drag races in
"The Fast and the Furious" and its sequel?
Its tons of fun. 150+ on an empty road, its all going well. Then the guy youre racing over compensates for something, or hits a rock, or hits a pothole, or even just looks away for a second and next thing you know your 3000lb has moved a 8000+ pound trailer 20 ft and ripped the entire top off the car (and ripped the top of your girlfriend in the passenger seat, but you wont find that out for a couple weeks because theyre still using the jaws of life to pull your unconscious body out).
I got pulled over once doing 144 in a 70. The cop told me if he ever saw me going so much as 1 over again he'd arrest me. I'd driven the route a couple times and made sure it was safe, no cars, no debris, perfect for those speeds. 'Responsible speeding' if you'll go for that term.
About a month later I started working in insurance claims. The thing at the top is the second call I took-I'll never forget it. The kid was careful, did everything right, but its just not possible to control a car that isnt actually touching the ground.

Smart street racing doesnt exist. Minimizing variables means going to the track where there are fewer variables and much more control of them.

My old street car was parked on the side of the road (legally) in a 30mph zone. Girl in a Honda Civic was going an estimated 60mph. Only 60-shouldnt be a big deal. She clipped my bumper slightly, it spun her car causing her to T-bone mine. Moved my much heavier and larger car 10 ft into another one, pushed it foward a bit, and destroyed her car. Worst part was, she'd taken off her seatbelt for a second to check on her kid in the back. Due to that, she was flung foward just before the airbag opened. When we went outside you could see the red mark where her head had cracked the windshield before her back was snapped by the airbag deploying into her stomach which was up against the steering wheel.

Ok, so I'm supposed to go drag racing with my bf and some of his family. I'm interested in drag racing, but I dont know a lot about it. I dont want to go tomorrow feeling dumb because I dont know anything about drag racing. Can you tell me everything you know about it? Im talking how it runs, the routine of it, everything. Thats easy. Drag racing is the first one to cross the finish line first is the winner!!
Bracket racing is a little different. It is still the first one across the finish line wins but there are a few catches. Since any car can race other cars of different speeds they handicap the start. If car A can run 8.90 seconds and car B can run 12.90 seconds they will hold the 8.90 car 4 seconds longer on the starting line.
To make this fair they use a dial in (aka index) to ensure the car is not holding speed so they can cross the finish line first.
If car A can run a 8.90 he will write 8.90 on the window. That is his dial in. If car B can run 12.90 he will put that on his window. Car B will get exactly a 4 second head start. if both cars have Identical reaction times (leaving the line at the exact moment the light turned green) and run right on there dial in, theoretically they will cross the finish line at the exact same time. If either car goes faster than their dial in, it is considered breaking out and is eliminated. if both cars break out the one who broke out by less is the winner.
If both cars run right on or above there dial in, then the car who crossed the finish line first is the winner.
The reaction time is based on the time it took for the front tires to leave the staging sensors v/s once the light turned green. There is .5 seconds between each amber bulb on a sportsman tree and they come down consecutively. on a pro tree, all three ambers drop at the same time and have .4 seconds between them and the green. most newer timing systems display the reaction time as .000 being perfect however some still display it as .500 being perfect on a sportsman and .400 on a pro tree.
The timing of the car does not start until the tires have left the staging beam.
If car a dials in his car at 8.90 has a .020 reaction time and his actual elapsed time was 8.903
and
Car B dials a 12.90 with a .002 reaction time and runs 12.915
Car B would be the winner. Although Car A was closer to his number, car b had the better reaction time which would put him across the finish line first by .006 seconds!!
Reaction times are very critical in drag racing. pro class drag racing is easy to understand because all cars are required to be the same. Bracket racing is a little different than drag racing due to all cars being different and the rules to make it fair for all racers.
Super class racing has a preset dial in. all cars have to run a certain index such as 8.90. both cars leave at the same time and must run as close to 8.90 with out going faster. It the same as the breakout in bracket racing. Its not really as fun to watch as bracket racing though.

you've got left over alcohol fuel buring and that's what's causing the flames to shoot out. it's like in nascar when they let off to go around a corner at atlanta or kansas or a speedway like that and you see the flames shoot out of pipes…however that's the ethonal in the fuel that nascar claims isn't there.
