re: your Trackside interview:
I'll have to disagree with you about the Homestead race, I thought it was fantastic. As for why only three cars were on the lead lap: it's very unlikely that aero setup has a lot to do with it, and you might be in a position to find out more about it than any of us. Every car I saw there was identically equipped and the rear wing angle is mandated.
It's more likely that most of the teams didn't have the mechanical grip they needed from bad chassis setup: shocks, spring rates, tire pressures, etc. Ed Carpenter's aero set up was fine for four laps and it didn't go off, his tires did. Many drivers were fighting understeer conditions, some oversteer, some both. There was no problem with the tire compound that I heard about, and very little marble buildup on the track after the race.
Sure, adding front wing helped correct the push in some cases, that's what Dario needed on his first stop. Even if some of the others were allowed to add more rear downforce, they still would have seen their straightline speeds fall far below the fast guys. I'd like to know what was up too.
SFR had over 100 laps testing there the previous week, ran 9th in the first practice, and went straight backwards for the rest of the weekend. I don't see how that is a downforce/ drag issue. Maybe a driver or engineer could shed a little more light on the subject. Thanks,
