drag racing fuel injection
What is better for drag racing...?
Carb or Fuel injected? I have always thought that Carbs were better for racing, because you can just dump large amounts of Fuel into the engine to go down the Quarter Mile. I thought fuel injection was better for other racing, and daily driver cars because deliver as much fuel and doesn't require a warm up. I'm asking this because Im building a 68 Firebird project car for a drag car(right now the car is just a body, no engine, no tranny, nothing) and I was going to put an older carb 350 to start with it, but everyone at the strip says a newer Fuel Injected 350(an LS1) would be better for drag racing. Now my local strip is mostly 90s American cars like Trans Ams, Camaros and Mustangs. You don't see many classic muscle cars, so there is a lot more fuel injected. Which is better for drag?
fuel injection is best for all racing because you can make all kinds of adjustments as it runs, how do you think the import guys get such big power?

Jano’s twn-cam, be it in 1300cc, 2.0l, twin-spark, with or without fuel-injection or variable-valve-timing is a work of art. A hugely long-lived engine, with beautiful engineering, beautiful aesthetics, fairly high power potential, great reliability and oh, the SOUND! However the Offy is tuely legendary. So much win. So much.
Fuel injected Bullet? Right, and I'll show you my Hindustan Ambassador 1.8 DLXi. With brand new chrome trim, new (baggy) seat covers, new (flappy plastic) full wheel covers, new (cheap plastic) dashboard, new (chromed plastic) front grille, new (retuned leafsprings) rear suspension, new (extra LEDs) instrument cluster and new (the passengers) collision impact absorbers. And, oh, fuel injection too.
The author has some strong points. However I believe that obtaining the appropriate OBD SW will be the least problem. It simply will be the age of the vehicle that forces vital electronic components to fail.I can`t see customers willing to pay a small fortune on new/remanufactured airbag controllers/ modules, ABS controllers, PCM`s, FCM`s etc- just to keep their ride going. Especially classic cars hardly see a constant use of operation which makes it tougher on all components. I already can hear some suggestions like who needs the Airbag, ABS etc functioning when I only take it out for a Sunday spin. Well more and more countries are attempting to tap into reading the vehciles faults during their mandatory safety inspection and once faults are present respectively the module is not responding- there goes your vehicle operating permit. Will the future classic car die- I tend to believe so. I know some people in the Triumph scene that yanked out their fuel injection system and replaced it with a carburator- the same on some late 70`s VW`s. They just where sick of all the system hickups that occured over time and replaced it with something more reliable. I´m afraid you can`t do that on a CAN vehicle.
Self sealing tubeless tires are tires with a special sealant inside so when you get a puncture it can seal itself (and they don't have inner tubes like on a bicycle wheel). A torque converter is found on an automatic transmission car and it does exactly the same job as a clutch on a manual transmission car in that it allows the car to be stationary without turning the engine off and put simply, it disconnects the engine from the wheels. Fuel injection is a system designed to mix fuel and air in an engine where fuel is atomised by forcing it through a tiny nozzle.
And if you are wondering, I spelt atomised right, I'm English.
to pass emissions you would prolly need to take it to a shop where they will do a tune up and upgrade your smog stuff on the car.
or you can tune it up yourself by getting high end plugs that fire extremely well. new cat converter absorbs alot of after gas smog.
mufflers also do a little something make sure you have no holes in yours. check for vacuum leaks in the engine and check your smog lines and your pvcp valve if it is carbureted which it prolly isnt
