Where to drag race? i live in los angeles area?
I never been to a dragstrip. i wanna know how they work? are they open everyday. and i also wanna know some great infos.
Nearest drag race tracks are Los Angeles County Raceway (LACR) in Palmdale, Irwindale raceway in Irwindale, and California speedway (?) in fontana. There is also a dragstrip at the Los Angeles County fairgrounds in Pomona but it is rarely open to the general public. Most are only open to the public on weekends. The other days of the week they are either closed or being rented out to individuals/groups who are doing testing. Irwindale has a Wednesday night free for all. Any licensed driver with any car that will pass a tech (safety) inspection. LACR as well as many other tracks have weekend events, These are Pontiac day, Ford day, sport compact day, etc. At LACR, the track I'm most familiar with, you can show up at any of these events in any vehicle and run down the dragstrip. these passes are usually designated as "time only" indicating to the track workers that you are there to test your car and are not a part of the weekends event. this usually costs $10-20 for the day. The number of passes (trips down the dragstrip) will vary on any given day. You may pay your fee and get three passes. some days ten. The greater the number of cars in the event on the day you show up, the fewer passes you'll get. On Wednesday nights at Irwindale you were likely to get 3-6 for your entry fee. Watch some other races to get to learn the routine for placing your vehicle in the proper spot to begin your pass. The proper starting spot is important because it is your vehicles position that operates the various timing devices as you go down the track. The first few times, wait for the green light to go. At the end of each run you'll receive a time slip that tells you the various timing elements for your pass. One of these timing elements is your reaction time. This is the time it took for you to react to the Green light after you saw it come on and to move your car forward enough to break the timing beam. As you progress your goal should be to reduce this number. You do that by anticipating the green light, that is moving your vehicle, before it is actually on and glowing green. A Red light appears when you over anticipate and leave to soon. Good luck, be safe, and have fun.
