drag racing in michigan
I had a question about drag racing?
Does any one go to drag strips in south michigan area? or drag strips alone for free day? If so is it all just a bunch of muscle cars pulling 10 second quater miles or is there imports and slow cars that run like 15's. My car currently will do 15-14's. I realise that is not fast at all but i enjoy racing and want to do it some where thats legal and safe. I was just wondering if thered be any one who could match me in a race or would i just be getting destroyed all day by drag cars?
Also my dad just bought a corvette c6, will that keep up with alot of cars? He is also intrested in it.
And by free day i didnt mean it cost free i ment like any one can go and race. my bad
Like Andrew said, racing isn't free,
they don't charge a lot, but it's expensive to keep the track open, and insured.
When I used to race in Palmdale Ca, they charged us about $20.
We had a Pontiac Outlaws club, so we just raced against other Pontiacs.We had cars that ranged from 8 seconds, to 17 seconds
Since we/they run "bracket" races, it didn't matter.
You state what you think your car can run, and they use the "light" to even it out.
If you have a 15 second car, ann run against a 14 second car, you get a one second head start, to make it "even/fair".
You just have to make sure that you give an accurate time.
To keep drivers from "sandbagging" (lying about their cars time, to get an advantage)
you will lose if you "break out" (run faster than you said you could)
MOst races are won/lost by how well you get off on the light.
One of our drivers won a lot becuase he was a master at the light.
He almost always had a .00 something light, and never "broke out"
none of us could figure this guy out,
he ran better light than most pros did?

I really wish that Yahoo would give the drag racers their own section.
I saw one guy bring an old Ford, (don't know what year, 1925?) that had the ORIGINAL straight 4 engine,
and somehow he got that car down the track in under 19 seconds,
that's ridiculous fast, for car that was about 75 years old?
