Wheels Standing Drag Racing
In Drag Racing (NHRA), do the drivers in the car have to shift gears?
I've never been a fan of drag racing, never watched the sport, but i was wondering if the drivers have to shift gears. In 1/4 mile tracks, I'm aware that the cars finish in a blink, maybe sub-5 seconds (just a guess). Do the drivers just react to the green light and keep the wheels straight, or do they shift gears like every half second? Also, are the cars manuel or automatic?
the top fuel dragster and funny cars have fixed gears so that means it is kind of like an automatic. the super prostock car have a pole in the area the shift sick is at and they have buttons doing down the pole and they push each one when they need to shift so it like an electronic shifter.
