Top Thrill Dragster ON COASTER FOOTAGE
What is the best roller coaster at Cedar Point for a first ride?
Next week I'm going with a lot of my family members, and my cousin has never been on a roller coaster. I want to take her on some big ones, but nothing too extreme like the Dragster. What are the best beginner coasters there?
I'd highly recommend "Blue Streak." Because it has the airtime and the speed of the big coasters, but it is very small, and very un-intimidating. If she likes that one, then I highly recommend "Gemini," which is also one that is really, really fun, although not too tall, but still scary enough to see if she really likes coasters or not. And if she likes that one, you can pretty much take her on any coaster in the whole park, except maybe TTD and Maverick, because they are both so intense. Heck, even I, a coaster enthusiast, still cringe every time I'm about to take off on either because I know how intense they are. "Millennium Force" is butter-smooth, though, so it is just about the perfect 'huge' coaster to work her up to.
If she doesn't like "Blue Streak," though, don't fret. Step her down next to "Iron Dragon," "Cedar Creek Mine Ride," and "Woodstock Express," all three of which are completely non-scary.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take her on "Mean Streak," "Corkscrew," or "Mantis" first. In fact, I'd skip them altogether because they are all really rough without being very thrilling, and will probably make her hate coasters. "Magnum" isn't quite as rough, but is extremely intense, so I'd save it for later in the day if you're going to ride it.
Remember, it's not the height or the speed that will scare a newcomer. It's the intensity and the roughness. Here's an approximate guide to all of the coasters at the park, first how smooth the coaster is (high numbers mean that they will really bang your head around,) and how intense they are (high numbers means more speed, airtime, and high g-forces.) I'll order them from most 'beginner' to most 'expert'.
