First, You have to take note of three things. The speed meter, the gauge on the left side of the screen, and the road itself.

Once you are able to kep an eye on all three, it should be much easier. When you first start the race, try to draft so that you ca keep your eyes on the guage. When you see a blue arrow at the top of the screen, get ready to switch gear. Press the switch gear button when the arrow turns green. (This will happen when the pointer for the gauge just go into the red zone)

So, after you switch gear, what happens? Well, from gear 2, you will go on to gear 3 and 4 and 5 to 6. So, just make sure you don't hit anything and "Total" your car and keep your eyes on the guage to win it.
