Dry Sump
Is it effective to put my airstone in one of the sumps in my wet-dry filter?
I have already done this with my heaters, and it's working great. I really just want as much tank space as possible, and to have the least amount of visible tubing as possible.
No it will do nothing, the natural flow of water over the filters is sufficient for gas exchange to occur in the sump, if you placed to near the return to the tank it could even cause the pump to fail, given you have a sump and the turbulence to the main tank from the return that should be enough to maximize the exchanges and i'd just leave it off all together.

Dry Sump System
Confuised on the Sump/Wet-Dry Trickle Filter?
1st, somebody told me they're different, now Im not too sure, if they are different which is better, and can they both have a refugium?
Most people do use the words interchangeably, but there are many ways to set up either one. I tend to think of a wet-dry filter as one having a bio-wheel, while a sump's media is always submerged. A sump/refugium is the better way to go though in a marine aquarium.

Is it a coincidence that the old Cayenne engine was a 4.5L V8 with dry sump lubrication?
Nascar race cars do use a "dry sump" type of oil pump and its very expensive from what Ive read about it. They use right at 16 quarts of oil(4 gallons)(32 pints) of what brand of oil I do not know but its synthetic in the engine. Im glad my truck doesn't use that much oil or I would be broke. BTW I read a few years ago the Joe Gibbs racing makes their own racing oil. I learn something new everyday.
