What's Maximum range of an Electric Vehicle without transmission ?
I am getting prepaid for building an EV Uno without transmission. The biggest motor and batary is no problem to buy.I want torque, ready to make a dragster without transmission but do i need transmission for above 100 km range?
I also want to convert to 4x4. Which one is better:
1-use 4x4 transmission?If which car's transmission?
2-use 2 big motor one rear and one front and no transmission?
3-use 4 small motors for each wheel?
The prevailing wisdom has been to eliminate any transmission on an electric drive and avoid any delays associated with having to shift in a drag race. If you eliminate the transmission you can then come to other considerations:
Do you need 4 wheel drive on a dragster that is essentially going in a straight line on a flat surface? Wheel motors are problematic for the "unsprung weight" but would be an excellent means to acquire 4 wheel drive. But some dragsters don't even have a rear suspension ... therefore no "unsprung weight" issues.
The question of wheel motors vs motors on the axle comes back to the need for a differential. Cornering you need a differential. For a centrally mounted engine you need a differential to change the direction of rotation. But you may not need a differential as you are only going straight line if you use axle mounted motors.

Why can’t they just make these Budget Entry Level sporty cars simpiler? All this hybrid garbage is just a distraction, either just make it a regular Internal combustion engine, or stop dinking around and put some lithium polymer batteries in it with a brushless moter, and then haul arse. 1 or the other. Hybrids are for polititians and smugofiles. The technolgy is there, as anyone up to date in the hobby class Electric RC scene knows, so why can’t 1:1 cars follow suit? Anyone who has seen a high end model electric dragster knows what we could do. Some of these things can go 100+ MPH in 1-2 seconds within 132 feet, with motors that spin at 100000 rpm, and full size vehicles are still diddling with NiMh, and hybrids? Stupid Corporate culture, it will take them 50 years to do something that should only take 10. That, and this car oviosly suffers from model bloat…
And yet another kid giving actual responsible race car drivers a bad name. I don’t know how many people I’ve had to explain to that street racers are not race car drivers, they’re just punks with big egos and tiny… brains.

Now that you mention it, I think the 50s would probably be pretty cool to 'visit'. Kids ridin' their bikes all over the place, catching tadpoles in glass jars, building radio sets that they got through mail order from a comic book. Street racing in classic American muscle cars. Agree with bad driving and group 350 to reduce emissions plus sending Green Peace news letters helps reduce. Not spam because effort to help. Now 3.50 cents from each person to represent emissions changes required or more done. This helps with MC Donald's beef consumption environment impact also.
