Whats the best way to set up my 1999 V6 mustang Automatic for drag racing? it must be streetable too?
also, i need launching tips and how get the most out of my stock setup
In real life, and im just getting started. This is my everyday driver car too
To be genuinely honest with you, your mustang has a few major things going against it. Its an automatic witch is a huge impediment. The V6s of that time were also a very tame engine. If you are serious and want to drop real money into making your mustang faster I would start by trading it in for a GT while it still has value, if you start moding it your are going to destroy its resale value. It will never be competitive as a base model auto. You can pick up a 5.0 (95 and older) for real cheap right now and there are a million mods readily available in addition to tons of used parts cheap in junk yards. They are also eaisier to work on.
That being said here is a list if mods that will make your mustang faster: (I wont go into much detail about installation because if you dont know how already you will need professional help with these things)
The most bang for your buck will be to change your gear ratio I believe the autos can go to 4.10 ratio.
Then you can drop in a K & N filter and cold air intake.
Replace you spark plugs and wires with higher quality preformance parts.
Install a higher end exhaust (like Flowmaster)
Have a tuning chip installed (like a Diablosport)
Use bigger/wider/stickier tires
There are many bolt on superchargers for mustangs mostly for the 5.0 and the 4.6 engines but they maybe available for the 3.8. On a side note dont even bother with a turbo way too much money and work.
You can also run a shot of nos into it for a reasonable fee, but nos is dangerous stuff if done wrong you can blow your engine up (and you.)
Next lighten the load, replace (or rip out) as much as you can with lighter weight parts like the hood and seats.
That is an extensive enough list. Seriously though, you want a fast street car you are going to have to get rid of your current mustang. You will need a manual transmission, and the bigger engine would certainly help. If you got a 5 speed 5.0 dropped a supercharger, intake, flowmater, tune it and up'd your gear ratio you would have a street car that is faster just about everything else you will come across and you can do it for cheap if you take your time finding the parts you need and do as much of the work as you can on your own.
