Couple questions regarding physics...?
1) While traveling along the highway a driver slows from 24m/sec to 15m/sec in 10 seconds. What is the driver's acceleration?
2) A parachute on a dragster race car opens and changes the speed of the car from 90m/sec to 45m/sec in a period of 4.5 seconds. What is the acceleration of the car
3) A cart rolling down an incline for 3.5 seconds has an acceleration of 4m/secSQUARED ... If the cart has a beginning speed of 2m/sec, what is the final speed?
4) A car traveling at a speed of 32m/sec encounters an emergency and comes to a complete stop. How much time will it take for the car to stop if it's rate of deceleration is -4m/secSQUARED
and .... what's the difference between average speed and instantaneous speed?
I have no clue on how to find acceleration, so please help me. Please show how you got the answer. This is pretty basic physhics but I still don't get it as physics is my worst class I've ever taken
acceleration can be defined as (final velocity minus the initial velocity) divided by the time in which the change of velocity occurs.
a=(v-u)/t
of course, this isn't the perfect definition and only works when the change in velocity from final to initial is constant.
a=dv/dt
acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.
this formula gives the instantaneous acceleration of the object.

Question about becoming an F/A-18 pilot?
I really love to fly and I am getting my pilot's license, private and commercial ratings next year. I want to become a fighter pilot after college, so I had a couple questions:
1) Do you practice skydiving in the Navy if you are a fighter pilot (I read somewhere that you never have to jump out of a plane, you just learn how to use the parachute.) Is that true?
2) If I don't like tall rolercoasters (Dragster, Millenium Force etc.) does that matter?
1) Yes you do learn to use a parachute. As a pilot, you may have to use one someday...
2) I don't think that really matters. German WW2 fighter ace Werner Mölders used to get really sick on every flight. He just kept going and got used to it eventually. It's just a matter of will and training.
Becoming a F-18 pilot was my dream too. I hope you have more luck than i did.
