This is something I’ve never really understood myself. I’ve recently heard a coworker simply profess that he “doesn’t like american cars anymore”. I’d argue with him, but I know where such an argument would lead me so I didn’t bother but I sometimes see it. This thread has a lot of good and viable answers but I think the reasoning behind the hate is the difference in car culture. We have the muscle scene which is about power in a straight line and to hell with everything else. The stereotype here is that of a redneck in a giant car with a huge engine and the turning radius of an aircraft carrier that will break down if you look at it wrong. I think a lot of import hate in this country is partly from stereotyping, partly from an auto japanophilia, but more importantly it comes from the culture being bashed on for years. Normal guys tuning their cars and going to tracks only to be called rice burners might cause anyone to maybe get a bit pissed at the other people. Then you have the imports. The stereotype here can be summed up in one word: “ricer”. We all know what it means. Honda civic, huge wing, primer black hood(cause it looks like carbon fiber, yo), loud fartcan exhaust, and a lot of money spent on a car that was designed to be a grocery getter with some charisma and expecting it to be fast. There are plenty of good japanese performance cars, but the negative stereotype of ricers is so common it’s something the other side always points to. Drag racing culture is likely a good reason that these cultures clash the way they do. American racing is pretty exclusively drag racing or racing between lights(and contrary to popular belief it is a pretty practical way of racing your car without burning away your breaks and doing excess ware and tear on your car). This gives an advantage to the muscle and because of cost of track days; or because street racing is dangerous, but street racing around corners where you can’t see anything is just extra stupid; a lot of the import fans also happen to drag race. So we have a huge amount of people who rave about their turning abilities and then test their cars out by racing in a straight line which makes the driver’s choice in a turning car kind of odd. Also the stereotypes are real. Ricers are out there and so are redneck muscle car owners. They are also a lot more common than you’d think(though it depends where you live, in my neck of the woods ricers are the more common ones). So there is a bit of a confirmation bias. Importers have to deal with obnoxious redneck AMERICAN MUSCLE! fans and a normal guy in his mustang has to deal with ricers thinking they are racing him when they pass him in the passing lane to show off how “fast” his 20 year old toyota corrola is since installing a cold air intake and a carbon fiber hood. So I guess to put it plainly, it’s a self perpetuating cycle of the stereotypes causing the factions to remain the way they are. Personally I don’t really care what country a car comes from, if it’s good I give credit where it is due.

maybe… a few bucks… as in four or five at most. I own a racing collectibles business and I can tell you I'd be lucky to get that if I were to even bother stocking it. Personally.. it would be a waste of space I could display finer collectibles. Please don't take offence I do like and carry NHRA collectibles… just being honest. But you could put in on e-bay and see if it brings more. THERE YOU GO… SOLD ON YAHOO ANSWERS FOR 100 BUCKS. "ONE MANS JUNK IS ANOTHER MANS GOLD"
