A top fuel drag racer with a mass of 500kg starts from rest and completes a 402m race in a time of 5 s. The dragster's final speed is 130 m/s. Neglecting friction, what average power is needed to produce ths final speed?
Use work-energy to find the work done on the car. Then the work done divided by time is the average power. Work = change in K = 1.2*m*v^2 = 1/2*500kg*(130m/s)^2 = 4.225x10^6J
So power = 4.225x10^6J/5.0s = 8.45x10^5W
