G66☆: Bike lanes need curbs, or both will cross into the other’s lane… the risk of scratching up your wheel rims makes most cars give you at least a half foot to get by. It scares me when I’m driving my car behind someone else, and just going around a little curve, they sometimes cut a quarter or more into the inside lane… there’s just no awareness of where the wheels are going.
You've noticed the difference in ride, haven't you; and asked the question “is it safe to fit run flat tyres”; Implied is the question “do they need special rims as well”.It would have been much less complicated to re-shod the A6 with the same tyres!
The run flats are mainly fitted to B.M.W's, because many of their cars are not supplied with a spare. They incorporate a spacer which is inserted in the tyre with the aim of preventing the beads of the tyre being dislodged into the wheel well if the tyre goes flat. Army vehicles have used them for years, but they're getting shot at!. All modern wheel rims have a safety hump inboard of the tyre bead, on the bead ledge, which the flat tyre has to ride over. Once it does that the car is undriveable. But it still happens, hence the spacer incorporated in the run flats.
i like the 2nd link better. but your car would look better with some black somewhere on the exterior for those rims. if you dont really have any black, or have very little, id go with the 1st. the 1st one isnt as flashy. so depending on how u want the car to look, and what the car looks like. its hard to say. and i dont know about your painted/alloy question. if i had to say i would say they are different.
